(English below)

MOROCCAN STORIES: selection of beneficiaries and kick-off of the program (January-April 2023)

At the start of 2023, we are pleased to launch a new program designed with the Scottish Documentary Institute (SDI) and supported by the British Council.

MOROCCAN STORIES is a training and creation workshop aimed at supporting a new generation of documentary filmmakers in the design and production of films offering an original point of view on a local story with a universal theme.

The opportunity for FIDADOC to complete the offer of its Documentary Beehive by relying on the expertise and experience of Noe Mendelle and the SDI teams who have conducted several workshops around the world in a comparable format with an immense hit.

MOROCCAN STORIES constitute this missing link between FIDADOC’s Documentary BeeHive which, during the week of the Festival, makes it possible to identify each year dozens of young Moroccans passionate about documentary cinema and our pan-African writing residency intended for holders of feature film projects.

Following a call for applications, SDI and FIDADOC selected 10 apprentice Moroccan documentary filmmakers, 6 young women and 4 young men, aged 20 to 34, with a committed story and eager to tell it in a format short and inventive:

  • Nouhaila AIT LAHCEN
  • Abderrahim AMRAOUI
  • Safaa BENDHIBA
  • Yassine EL AMIRI
  • El Batoul Maria EL OUAFI
  • Omar HAZMIRI
  • Safae LAHGAZI-ALAOUI
  • Sanae LAHGAZI-ALAOUI
  • Yasmine MAHJOUBI
  • Zakaria SEDRATI

MOROCCAN STORIES include around twenty working sessions spread from January to April 2023.

In its first phase, the workshop combines collective seminars, individual consultations and practical exercises which will allow the selected candidates to explore the creativity of documentary filmmaking and to develop their skills in many areas: storytelling, characters, visual metaphors, sound-track…

In a second step, they will work alone or in teams to produce 5 short documentaries (10 minutes maximum).

The majority of the work sessions will take place online, but all the participants will be brought together for a weekend to pitch their projects and then for a week of editing intended to finalize their films aimed at reaching new local and international audience.
